The department is committed to providing ethical and evidence-based surgical options to our patients.

Minimal access surgery involves one or more small incisions (usually only 1/4" long) rather than a large incision that results in less pain,  shorter hospital stay and faster recovery.

The alternate name for minimal access surgery is laparoscopic surgery.

It is a minimally invasive procedure.

  • The surgeon may advise some invasive (colonoscopy/ endoscopy/ hysteroscopy) or non-invasive imaging tests such as complete blood count (CBC), blood liver enzyme tests, blood chemistry tests, electrocardiogram (EKG), and chest X-ray.
  • The doctor may advise the patient to stop blood-thinning medications and antihistamines.
  • You will be advised not to  eat or drink from the night before the surgery.
  • Your doctor may advise some antibiotics to be taken before the procedure, depending on the type of surgery.

The additional types of minimal access surgery are-

  • Laparoscopy- When a telescope is used for the abdomen, it is known as laparoscopic surgery.
  • Thoracoscopy- When a telescope is used for the chest, it is known as thoracoscopy.
  • Arthroscopy- When a telescope is used for joints, it is known as arthroscopy.
  • Stapler hemorrhoidectomy: Minimal access procedure for the treatment of piles.
  • Endoscopic hernia Surgery: For the treatment of various types of hernias.

  • Anaesthesia- Most of the minimal access surgeries are performed under general anaesthesia. However, there are some procedures that are done under local anaesthesia.
  • Incision- A Small Incision is made, and a camera is inserted into the body that allows better visibility of the surgical site. Additional incisions may be required for other instruments. A device is inserted through the incision to inflate the area so that surgeons get better accessibility to the surgical site.
  • Closure of site- After the procedure, the incision is closed with staples and sutures.

The patient may be asked to visit the hospital for a follow up appointment about 1 to 2 weeks after the surgery.

  • Trauma– surgery and care
  • All kinds of hernias- both by open and by laparoscopic surgery.
  • Ano rectal diseases- abscesses, fistula, fissure and piles. We are performing Stapled hemorrhoidectomy with many benefits to the patient such as minimal blood loss, less pain and early recovery.
  • Infective conditions- abscesses, and diabetic foot are taken care with good results and early rehabilitation for the patient.
